Yuma Sector Border Patrol Seizes Over 1600 Pounds Of Marijuana Over Five Days

Marijuana-budsUnited States Border Patrol agents from Yuma Sector arrested 17 drug smugglers and seized over 1600 pounds of marijuana during a five-day period. 

The largest find occurred on Saturday when agents found 410 pounds of abandoned marijuana near Davidson Canyon on the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge.  The stash was located seven miles south of the Camino del Diablo road in an area heavily used for narcotics trafficking.  The drugs were seized for destruction.

On Sunday, agents discovered a group of four Mexican nationals near the Crater Mountains southwest of Gila Bend.  The group had crossed through the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge and was carrying a combined 228 pounds of marijuana. All four men and the drugs were turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
