Yuma PD Investigates Shots Fired On Sunday Night

Smoking-Gun-BarrelThe Yuma Police Department is investigating a report of shots being fired in the area of First Avenue and Sixth Street Sunday night.  Several callers reported the incident, and witnesses reported seeing people fleeing the area on foot after the gunshots occurred.

Officers say witnesses described seeing a Silver or White color four-door sedan, late-1980’s to early-1990’s model – possibly a Mitsubishi “Lancer”, with an unknown license plate.  The vehicle was occupied by at least two male subjects.

The subject in the front passenger seat of the sedan was seen firing a handgun at several male subjects walking in the area.  The victims of the incident were last seen running southbound in an alleyway near the area. The suspect vehicle went west on Sixth Street from First Avenue, and was last seen traveling northbound on Fourth Avenue at a high rate of speed.  The victims of the incident that were seen running from the area have not yet been located. It is unknown if they are injured at this time.

It has not yet been determined whether or not the incident is gang-related or gang-motivated.  Anyone with information is urged to contact the Yuma Police Department at 928-373-4700 or 78-Crime.
