Study Suggests Property Values Could Drop With Declining Water Flows Of Colorado River

Protect-the-flowsIf water flows decline as predicted in the Colorado River system, a new study projects river-based property values could also decline by an average of ten-percent.

The study by the advocacy group Protect the Flows surveyed real estate professionals in Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado.  Co-director Molly Mugglestone says the findings underscore the importance of including economic impacts in federal discussions of best water management practices.

A previous study by the United States Interior Department predicts significant future flow reductions in the Colorado River Basin as a result of a supply-and-demand imbalance.  A U.S. Senate subcommittee held a hearing on the situation Tuesday.
