Sewer Rate Hike Not As High As Feared

A rate hike proposed by Far West Water has now been lowered.  The original request to raise the base sewer rate to $62.65 has been adjusted to $57.77 per month. 

The utility says without a substantial rate increase on Sewer service, they may go bankrupt. 

The Yuma Sun reported on Sunday that the Corporation Commission staff recommended the latest rate increase only after Far West pays off several debts and clears up several water and air quality violations documented in 2010. 

Several hundred customers have attended two public meetings opposing the rate hike.
