Schools Locked Down During Standoff Between Yuma Police And Barricaded Man

barricadeThe Yuma Police Department were kept busy Tuesday afternoon after a subject barricaded himself inside a residence, threatening to kill himself. 

Police say 57-year-old Spencer Ross barricaded himself inside a closet at the residence on Carol Avenue.  Police learned he was possibly armed.  Ross refused to come out of the residence or comply with verbal commands. 

Several of the surrounding schools were placed on lock-down as a precautionary measure.  The lockdown was in effect for approximately one hour. 

At about 6pm, Ross surrendered to police. 

Ross was treated at Yuma Regional Medical Center and was then booked for weapon violation related offenses. 

The area immediately surrounding the residence was secured and traffic was detoured for over three hours. 

No injuries were reported to police.
