One Man Dead After Officer Involved Shooting In Yuma

Police-ShootingOne man is dead following a shooting involving an officer from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office. 

On Tuesday, police say a probation officer went to check on a subject at his residence, but was not there when the officer arrived.  About an hour later, police were able to enter the residence, but did not find the person they were looking for, but did locate an empty handgun case. 

Using a cell phone tracking system, the subject was located in a dirt field off Avenue Seven-E.  Alfonzo Zavala with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office says he was armed with a handgun.

Zavala adds that the subject was given multiple commands to drop the weapon and failed to comply.  Four Deputies fired weapons, striking the suspect.  The yet unnamed subject was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
