Man Caught Smuggling Nearly $1 Million In Cocaine Across Border

Cocaine-packagesA Yuma Border Patrol Sector canine team disrupted a smuggler’s efforts to transport over $943,000 worth of cocaine through a checkpoint Wednesday on Interstate-Eight near Spot Road. 

A 64-year-old man was sent to secondary inspection after a canine alerted to his blue Ford Expedition. Upon further inspection, 14 packages of cocaine were discovered in the vehicle’s doors. 

The driver, a Mexican national, was legally in the United States with Lawful Permanent Resident status. The man and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
