Lack Of High Voltage Power Lines Holding Back Renewable Energy Growth

Power-LinesThere is a treasure trove of renewable energy in the US, but the obstacles and barriers to getting it on the grid are many.

Johnathan Hladik with the Center for Rural Affairs says the biggest hurdle right now is the lack of high voltage transmission lines.  He says adding to that infrastructure would allow for the use of more renewable resources, while helping with rural economic development.

Currently, less than one-percent of the country’s highest-capacity transmission lines are located in the states with the most wind energy potential.
