In October, in honor of the 27th annual anniversary of Public Power Week, Imperial Irrigation District began rolling out a new energy safety campaign to reach seventh and eighth grade students in the Imperial and Coachella valleys on the importance of indoor and outdoor electrical safety.
The "Safety Surge" newsletter has been distributed to junior high schools. The newsletter contains information about where electricity comes from as well as how it is delivered to homes and businesses. IID is asking students to share the newsletter with their families. To get students involved in spreading the message of electrical safety, IID is conducting a contest for the chance to win one of three iPod Touches or one of seven gift cards. Seventh and eighth grade students are asked to submit a song, poem, illustration, essay or a combination thereof expressing their electrical safety message by October 31st. Winners will be announced during the week of November 12th.
