Immigration Bill A Good First Step According To Advocates

Immigration-LawArizona immigrant advocates are calling the comprehensive immigration bill adopted by a United States Senate committee Tuesday night “a good first step.”  But the 22-member coalition says there is a lot more work to be done to convince Senators and Representatives to support the measure.

Abril Gallardo of Living United for Change in Arizona says current immigration laws are tearing families apart.  She says her mom was unable to visit her ailing grandmother in Mexico to say goodbye before the woman died.

The Senate Judiciary Committee passed the immigration bill 13-to-five.  A full Senate vote is expected next month.
