Home Being Built With Granite Mountain Hotshots Firefighter In Mind

A home going up on a four-acre lot in the Avra Valley northwest of Tucson is being built with one of the Granite Mountain Hotshots in mind. Firefighters, a church and others are raising money and doing the hands-on work to build the 2200 square-foot home for the widow and young daughter of William "Billy" Warneke. The 25-year-old was one of the 19 Hotshots killed June 30th 2013 by the Yarnell Hill Fire in southwestern Yavapai County. Warneke was rebuilding their mobile home. The volunteers then decided to build a new home instead of finishing the remodeling. Crews are now doing electrical and plumbing work, with completion of the home anticipated in May.
