Harvest Homegrown Fun At Yuma Lettuce Days

Sure, Yuma Lettuce Days is all about the green stuff. But salad is just the first course at this agricultural "feastival" showcasing the diverse bounty of the area’s fertile river delta and the delicious dishes that can be created from it. This year's headline chef is two-time Top Chef contestant Chris "CJ" Jacobson, now executive chef at Girasol, in Studio City, California. At Lettuce Days, CJ will present two live cooking demonstrations each day, backed up by an all-star talent lineup that includes a hometown gal turned cupcake baker, local chefs and even some school cooks who will share their secrets for satisfying more than 22-thousand hungry kids every day. Also on tap, "kale gating," a beer garden, Kids' Ag-tivities, cooking contests, a farmers' market, fancy vegetable and ice carving, a salsa cantina where you can mix up a custom blend, plus a tasting event with beers, wines and an array of specialties from local restaurants. The homegrown celebration kicks off at the Yuma Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park on the Yuma riverfront and will be held Saturday and Sunday.
