The U.S. Marshals Service says a fugitive seeking asylum in Mexico has been returned. 26-year-old Thomas Ruben Velarde – also known as “Poison” and “Serio” – was returned to the United States Sunday, August 11. He is wanted for a homicide he was sentenced for in Compton, California. He was returned via the Nogales Port of Entry. He was sentenced in July, 2010 and has eluded authorities since that time. When he was found, deputies immediately began to assist the Mexican authorities with their investigation of Velarde. Authorities in Mexico located and arrested him without incident in Huatabampo, Sonora Mexico. Velarde was taken into custody by Deputy U.S. Marshals and was transported to the Pima County Detention Center where he will await his extradition back to Los Angeles.
