On Sunday, United States Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Station encountered and seized two vehicles filled with more than $1.5 million worth in marijuana and arrested one of the drivers. Camera operators notified Border Patrol agents of two vehicles traveling north from the United States/Mexico International Boundary vehicle barriers. Agents responded to the area approximately 21 miles west of Calexico and encountered two vehicles traveling south. The vehicles separated and then stopped near the border. Three individuals exited and ran towards Mexico in an attempt to escape agents. Agents arrested one of the fleeing individuals, a 40 year old male who was later identified as a citizen of Mexico illegally present in the United States. Agents secured both vehicles containing 79 large bundles of marijuana with a combined weight of 1,881 lbs.
