Desert Hills Golf Course Theft

The Yuma Police Department released information regarding a felony theft charge on Tuesday against an employee of Desert Hills Golf Course, which is owned by the City of Yuma and operated through the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. Officials say 34 year old Erica Cibrian has been terminated. Police say she was responsible for the money deposits for both the Arroyo Dunes and Desert Hills golf courses. Police say she embezzled $8300 from the courses. She is charged with one felony count of theft. An internal administrative review of practices, policies and procedures at the course facility has been completed, which uncovered additional issues.
Due to the incident, the Director and Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Yuma have been placed on administrative leave. The City has appointed Debbie Wendt as Interim Director of Parks and Recreation. She has been the department’s Recreation Superintendent. Also, during the replacement of carpeting, air conditioning systems, painting and minor remodeling of the restaurant and lounge at Desert Hills, the City is reorganizing and resizing its staffing requirements. Ten part-time positions have been eliminated.
