Fire Destroys Home On New Year’s Day 
 A home was destroyed by fire just five hours into the new year. The Yuma Fire Department says the fire broke out at 2516 West 25th Street and responded after receiving a report of a fire alarm at that residence Wednesday morning. While in route a second call was received from the alarm company saying that the resident had confirmed there was a fire at the home. Arriving YFD personnel found heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. Firefighters initially entered the home but the fire had already spread into the attic and they were forced to continue their efforts from the exterior. Fire officials say the resident initially tried to put the fire out himself, but failed and evacuated safely with only one of his dogs. The other dog is believed to have died in the fire.

More than 100 damage claims seeking a total of $662 million have been filed by property owners and relatives of firefighters who died in the Yarnell Hill fire. Mesa Agrees To Sell 11,000 Acres Of Land To Real Estate Investment Company

Mesa has announced the sale of about 11,000 acres of land it owns in Pinal County. On Christmas Eve, Yuma Fire Department personnel responded to 48 emergency calls for service. Two of those were residential fires.
