Border Patrol Seizes Marijuana Dropped From Ultralight Aircraft

Ultra-Light-aircraftUnited States Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Station seized 162-pounds of marijuana that had been dropped from an ultra-light aircraft Wednesday morning.  An ultra-light aircraft was seen crossing the Colorado River west of Yuma near County 12th

Agents tracked the aircraft as it made an incursion into the United States, and then turned around and crossed back into Mexico.  Agents searched the area and found several bundles of marijuana tied to a metal frame in a field near Avenue D and 32nd Street.  The drugs were turned over to the DEA.

In a separate incident on Tuesday, agents encountered three Mexican nationals attempting to smuggle 192-pounds of marijuana through the west portion of the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge.  The three men and the contraband were turned over to the Yuma County Narcotics Task Force.

Combined, the marijuana weighed 354-pounds and is estimated to be worth approximately $177,000.
