Border Patrol Apprehends 21 Drug Smugglers

US-Border-PatrolUnited States Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector arrested 21 drug smugglers and seized a combined 783 pounds of marijuana in two days valued at more than $390,000.

Agents working 20 miles west of Gila Bend Wednesday night apprehended a group of 17 drug smugglers after an agent spotted the group using night vision equipment and guided other agents to their location.  The smugglers were carrying 503 pounds of marijuana they had trafficked through the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge. 

Another group of four Mexican nationals were caught Thursday carrying 143 pounds of marijuana south of Gila Bend.  Later Thursday, agents came upon an additional 137 pounds of marijuana abandoned in the Mohawk Mountains.
