AWC Basketball Season Over After Loss To Central AZ


The season is now over for the Arizona Western College men’s basketball team.  The Matadors were defeated Saturday by first seeded Central Arizona 78-to-67.  Marvin Whitt led the Matadors with 19 points.  AWC ends the season with an overall record of 25-and-seven, 19-and-three in conference play. Cocopah Cup Takes Place This Weekend


The Cocopah Cup is this weekend – a part of the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series.  The races start tonight and will continue through Saturday.  Three time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart is headlining this weekend’s races.  Race car driver Bryan Brown says there is no added pressure with Stewart coming. Yuma Man Involved In Police Standoff Booked On Domestic Violence Charges


The Yuma Police Department says a man who barricaded himself in a residence on South Eleventh Avenue on Wednesday has now been charged.  37-year-old Jacson Williams was arrested following an over three-hour standoff.  Williams later came out of his apartment and was promptly arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault per domestic violence, Kidnapping per domestic violence and Sexual Assault per ... Pentagon Lifts Restrictions On F-35s


The Pentagon has lifted a restriction keeping F-35’s grounded around the country – including at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma.  A crack was discovered in a turbine blade while going through test flights last week at Edwards Air Force Base in California.  There was one test flight in Yuma the day before the Pentagon ordered all F-35’s grounded. ... AZ Gas Prices At Five Month High


Gasoline prices for Arizona have hit a five-month high.  Officials with AAA Arizona says that the average statewide price for unleaded regular gasoline is $3.74 a gallon.  That is more than 11 cents higher than last week and a rise of 56-cents since January.  This week's national average is $3.78 a gallon, up by less than a penny from last week. Matadors Top Mesa College To Advance In Playoffs

Two Men Taken Into Custody After Police Standoff


Two persons are in custody after they held police at bay during a standoff Wednesday afternoon in the 2000 block of South Eleventh Street.  The Yuma Police Department says they were trying to talk to 37-year-old Jacson Williams following a domestic violence related incident.  Williams refused to come out of his apartment.  Police tried to negotiate with him by loudspeakers.  ...
